Minor Procedures

At Health Sciences North (HSN) in Greater Sudbury, Dr. Szeto performs a variety of "minor procedures" in the Minor Procedures Unit on Level 2. These outpatient procedures include the excision of skin lesions, biopsies, re-excisions, reconstructive procedures, and other minimally invasive medical interventions.

Post- Procedure

1. Dressing Care

- Remove dressing(s) as instructed by your healthcare provider.

 

2. Wound Hygiene

- Keep the wound clean and dry for the first 48 hours. You may wash or shower as usual.

- Clean the incision line (even if covered with Steri-Strips) with liquid soap and water twice daily.

 

3. Steri-Strips

- If Steri-Strips (paper tape) fall off, apply a small amount of Polysporin Ointment (not Polysporin cream) to the incision line at bedtime for 7 days.

 

4. Positioning

- Elevate the operative site above the level of your heart for the next 48 hours to help minimize swelling, bruising, and discomfort.

 

5. Medications

- The anesthesia effect ("freezing") will wear off within 6-8 hours.

- Take prescribed medication as directed, or use Tylenol for pain relief as needed.

 

6. Signs of Infection

- Contact Dr. Szeto’s office at 705-222-6445 if you notice:

- Increased redness

- Worsening pain

- Increased swelling

Follow-up/Results

Dr. Szeto’s office will contact you to arrange your follow-up appointment, which will be scheduled for 2-3 weeks after your procedure.
